Left has found their Partiotic side

Or at least created one since Obama won. However, the question remains, how long will it last? I think they will be back to burning flags in no time when they discover that Obama won’t be their knight in shining armor. Iraq seems to be won but Afghanistan is a whole different story and these people hate war of any kind, no matter how justified. Therefore I give it about a year before this “new patriotism” wears off. How long do you give it?

First (partial) Algae Biofuel Flight Scheduled for Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Continental will be conducting the first test flight ever made using a partial mix of algae biofuel. The aviation fuel mixture will contain a 50-50 mixture of aviation fuel and a biofuel mix of jatropha and algae.

Continental says the flight will occur at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, at 1115 AM local time tomorrow. The aircraft in question will be a Boeing 737-800 equipped with CFM International CFM56-7B engines, and the biofuel mix used will be sourced from feedstocks including jatropha and algae.

Continental say that this means the test will draw only on “sustainable, second-generation fuel sources that do not impact food crops or water resources, and do not contribute to deforestation”. In addition to airline execs, the event will be attended by Billy Glover, Boeing’s managing director in charge of environmental strategy.

This flight will come on the heels of an Air New Zealand test flight using a mixture of regular jet fuel and biofuel derived from jatropha nuts. Hopefully the test will be successful.

Huffington Post: Global Warming “is the biggest whopper ever sold to the public”

Wow. Am I seeing things or did Huffington Post actually post an article arguing against  global warming alarmist? I am honestly a little shocked right now. By this article popping up on Huffington Post, one is led to believe the claim that the deniers did indeed win in 2008.

I must say, Harold Ambler, who wrote this article for HuffPo, is currently my hero. His whole article attacks Al Gore and the many “whoppers” he has sold to the public. Here is a brief summary of what Ambler argues:

  1. The phrase “climate change” is redundant and misleading. Climate has always been changing and always will. Gore wants you to believe the there is such a thing as a stable climate.
  2. What came first: Temperature rises or CO2 increases? Ambler argues the former (In the past, CO2 increases have lagged 800 years behind temperature) while Gore will try to convince you the latter.
  3. CO2 can only absorb a  limited amount of infrared radiation and has already reached its maximum. Therefore temperatures theoretically shouldn’t rise any higher.
  4. However, the mechanism of CO2 increases causing temperature increases has never been shown to exist
  5. Henrik Svensmark lays out a theory of cosmic rays interfering with our atmosphere. More cosmic rays cause more clouds and more cooling and vice versa. (Read The Chilling Stars by Henrik Svensmark for more on this theory)
  6. The sun obviously has a very strong effect on our atmosphere and climate.
  7. Volcano vents in the ocean floors also cause problems (especially in the arctic)
  8. He finishes with a graph that shows record levels of ice in the Antarctic in 2007.

The whole article is pretty impressive and probably one of the better anti-alarmist pieces I have seen yet. It is well thought out and presents the evidence quite succinctly. Basically, the only thing else I can say is this: Read the whole article.

PS. Does anyone else think that it is funny that this article is posted under the “Green” section of Huffington Post (though I don’t know where else they could put it)?

Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a great and safe New Year’s Eve last night and I wish my readers a very successful New Year!

Gobal Warming: It’s All About Increasing Governmental Power

Finallly, someone recognizes what global warming alarmism is about: increasing governmental power.

Its extent and scale may still be an issue among scientists, but politicians have latched on to this crusade fervently. The reason is simple. It increases the power of government

It has taken some time but now people are beginning to see that all the proposed government regulations are unnecessary and only lead to bigger government.
