Ben Bova needs to get some facts straight

This guy obviously needs to stick with science fiction writing. He makes so many false assumptions about skeptics that I feel I should point a few of them out.
-
First off, Bova makes the assumption that skeptics are “climate change doubters.” This is patently misleading. If anything, we skeptics are firm believers in climate change. It’s the alarmists who seem to believe that the environment is static so ay warming is unnatural and must be stopped. Deniers believe in a constant, natural change in temperature, climate, etc.
-
Next, he misrepresents what the whole problem is with Goddard’s recent temperature mishap. If I’m remembering it correctly (since I’m typing this from my cell phone and don’t have a computer to check), the problem most of us deniers had about this incident is that the Institute admitted that they don’t verify any of the temperatures before they published their findings. This makes basically all their finding suspect.
-
Other than that, he just states that the earth is warming without ever linking it to humans. Sure the earth has warmed over the past century and sure CO2 has risen but correlation doesn’t neccesarily mean causation.

Oh, there will be a backlash

Conservatives really are going to have it easy the next couple of years. I mean, Obama promised so much that it is technicaly impossible for him to accomplish anything resembling the 200+ pages of plans he has for America. The only thing his followers have is hope, and even that shouldn’t last too long before it decays into disillusionment.

Well it looks like the environmentalists have decided to steal some Christmas joy by denouncing the evils of energy-guzzling video game consoles. The console that makes it to the top of the ‘Naughty’ list is PS3 so don’t expect any gaia-fearing environmentalists to get one of those for their kids.

Philip Stott of Global Warming Politics wrote a great article today discussing the Green’s crazy Economic schemes (some of which I discuss here). In that article, Stott makes an amazing comparison between George Orwell’s 1984 and the current trash being spewed by the Global Warming Alarmists.

The second tactic has been to try to manufacture, in the style of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four (1947), an all-encompassing external threat against which there must be perpetual war. The prime example of this is ‘global warming’, which has been likened in gravity to the Great World Wars.

Such a perpetual threat demands the downplaying of democracy, the legitimising of ‘Green’ totalitarianism, the destruction of markets, and the establishment of Ministries of Truth. The last are increasingly serviced by a regiment of civil servants who are locked into the current belief system. I find it not only amusing, but also a tad terrifying, that, in the UK, we have actually created a Climate Department [Newspeak: Miniclim?] to maintain the perpetual war.

It is worth recalling that Orwell’s protagonist, Winston Smith, an Outer Party member, was set the task of rewriting historical documents to match the party line, the orthodoxy of which could change weekly. This process included destroying evidence [cf. “There was no Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age”], amending newspaper articles [“Cooling is Warming”], and deleting the existence of people identified as “unpersons” [“Global Warming Denial is a Thought Crime”]. Interestingly, one of our finest novelists e-mailed me recently to inveigh against her local council’s creation of precisely such a Winston Smith post, namely a Climate Change Officer on a large salary paid for by us good citizens out of an ever-increasing Council Tax.

Brilliant, utterly brilliant.

What the RNC needs to do between now and 2012

Alright fellow Republicans, we got beat, not as bad as they were predicting since it looks like the Democrats might not reach the magical number of 60 seats in the Senate. Nevertheless, there is no possible way for us to even look at this past election as anything other than an utter failure for the GOP brand name.

But fear not fellow Republicans, for I have a plan. This election has granted us a unique opportunity not yet seen by Republicans in this country. For a long time, we have been “the man” either in Congress by holding the majority from 1994-2006 or as President from 2000-2008. During this time, technology has increased exponentially with YouTube, Blogs, and Podcasts reshaping the way the media and politics are conducted.

At the same time, liberals have attacked our leadership, always stating that things would be better if they were in charge. Out of this came a candidate who it can be argues that Barack Obama best used these advances to win the election (though if he used them legally is a completely different story) Well I have news for those liberals: Now you are “the man” and it is our turn to use the recent technological advances against your united government to ensure a conservative president next election.

How will we Republicans do this? Well I have a few ideas that should give us a little help come 2012.

They have a video of me saying what?

First off, you know what the one good thing about Obama being elected is? It’s that we know exactly who we will be running against come 2012. Articles have already started to come out predicting who his opponents will be but for my plan, this really doesn’t matter. While the Republican candidates focus on jostling and positioning themselves to become the next nominee, the RNC needs to focus on what Obama says, every single word.

Honestly, how often did Obama and Biden say something that was politically damaging to them over the past election cycle? Why not get a head start and begin to transcribe, categorize, and save every single speech, statement, and haphazard remark they make between now and the next election? Though his remarks might seem mundane now, down the road (aka the 2012 election) you may be able to find a statement that can be used in a campaign ad against him.

Seriously people, how much money would it take to hire a GOP staffer to transcribe/organize all of Obama’s public addresses and videos into a library of sorts? With websites like YouTube, you will even be able to get those remarks that were made without huge audiences. Why wait until the next election to get all this research done when we can have a very extensive database/dossier which people can instantly look up what he said about certain topics. Personally, I think this would be priceless.

Countering The Ministry of Truth

The next item deals with “change,” one of our Dear Leader’s favorite mantras. As you may be well aware, Obama loves change and his newest website Change.gov reflects this. In fact, this website has already experienced multiple “changes” and revisions since it was first put up just days ago.

What the RNC needs to do with this is keep a running list of all the “changes.” Hell, don’t even wait for the election to publish it; get it out there now and keep it constantly updated. The blogs will do most of the watchdog work for you so all that will need to be done is verification of the item in question and an assessment of whether or not the “change” is worth mentioning.

The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry

One thing that our illustrious leader has done for us is give the people over 280 pdf pages worth of pure “hope” (aka future plans) for our nation. Put another way, this is over 280 pages of promises that he will be unable to keep. While most candidates give just vague generalities for where they want to take the country, Obama gave very detailed plans with target dates and all. What the GOP needs to do is keep a list of all his failed promises, maybe publishing it in a quarterly magazine as the years go on. Then again, it might be more effective if the GOP waits until the 2012 election season and pulls a Martin Luther-esque stunt like nailing the complete list of Obama’s failures to the doors of Congress. Whatever they do, a list is a must and the GOP needs to start now.

You cannot run from your past forever

Along with all of this, it really wouldn’t hurt to delve more into Barack Obama’s past. Think about it this way: You have four more years to conduct opposition research without your opponent being able to reciprocate. I don’t know if it was just me, but it seems that there was a lot of “juicy” stuff coming out in the last week of the campaign. However, this stuff seemed to just be thrown out there without being developed.

You have four years RNC, two and a half until the election cycle comes back around, so research his past. When you get some interesting tidbits from his past, link it to statements and actions he has made during his four years as president (Hint: This is where that video archive I discussed above would come in handy). For example, he has made a lot of socialist sounding statements in the past election cycle so your goal would be to link these statements to socialist sounding statements and actions he has taken while president. Form a crystal clear bond for the public to see that Obama is the exact same man he was when he was younger. Prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the same man that would seek out Marxists and Socialists in college and domestic terrorists when he was older. All in all, I doubt this would be too hard to pull off.

Conclusion

So RNC, what are you waiting for? If you are worried about money to finance these operations, I doubt you will have to wait too long: soon people will be giving you all the change they can spare after they have experienced Obama’s “change.” So have faith fellow Republicans, we can still pull off a win in the 2012 election (along with gaining some seats in the 2010 election as well). If we play our cards right, start work now, and find a candidate that actually is a conservative to represent us, we might be able to end Barack Hussein Obama’s reign in 2012.
