New Hampshire Debate Winners
I’m going to keep this article short and sweet but basically my picks for the winners of tonight’s debate are Romney for the Republicans and probably Edwards for the Democrats.
I think Romney won because no matter how much he was getting attacked from all sides, he kept his cool. McCain almost always had a little quip against him but he always tried to get the debate back onto the issues, not on personal attacks. For me, I have a lot of respect for someone who will not give in to the temptation to get a few cheap laughs from the audience from a personal attack. I actually found myself quite disappointed at Huckabee’s interjection hinting at Romney’s changing of stance on issues while Romney was speaking. Respect, or at least the pretense of respect, for the other candidates is a quality I admire in candidates.
Now, on the Democrat’s side, I think that Edwards won the debate for several reasons. One reason was that he had a very strong message (even if I didn’t agree with it) and he actually got Hillary flustered. Even if you don’t believe that Edwards won, the one thing I think that everyone can agree on is that Hillary lost outright. All the candidates seemed to be against her and at one point, Obama and Edwards seemed to be tag teaming against her and here almost finishing each other sentences. As I mentioned in my live blogging of this debate, the chemistry between them seemed to hint at the possibility of an Obama/Edwards ticket in ’08.
